The members of Grace Road Church have sent an official response to the UN. Grace Road Church had appealed to the UN office in Fiji on 10 November, 2019 about the case of Reverend Okjoo Shin and Grace Road Church members being rigged by the media and a fatal violation of the freedom of religion, which was forwarded to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (headquarters) in Switzerland. There had been no official response until the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights sent the following questions to the President of Grace Road Group on 23 April, 2020:
Questions from the UN Special Rapporteur: As it is our responsibility, under the mandates provided to us by the Human Rights Council, to seek to clarify the case of Grace Road Church, we would be grateful for your observations on the following matters:
1. Provide additional information and/or comment(s) on the allegations against Reverend Okjoo Shin and the church members.
2. Provide information on what measures have been implemented to address the allegations of physical and psychological abuse.
3. Provide information about the allegations of labor exploitation and withholding of wages.
4. Provide information about the allegations of lack of freedom of movement, retention of identity documents and obstruction of access to healthcare for Grace Road Group members in Fiji.
5. Provide information about the allegations of child abuse, neglect, and forced labor.
6. Indicate which contracts or agreements the Grace Road Group has formalized with the Fiji Government and of what nature such contracts or agreements are.
7. Explain what measures Grace Road Group has taken, or is considering to take, to ensure that the individuals affected by allegations have access to compensation.
